Additional Surfing Infos
In periods of high surf, the rip is like a river. When paddling out, paddle out towards the rock at the edge of the breakwater.
  Overview
Atmosphere The largest sand beach between Kailua-Kona and Keauhou is the popular Kahalu'u Beach Park, adjacent to the Keauhou Beach Resort. This gray sand beach is one of the most popular swimming and premium snorkeling sites in the Kona district. Home to the green sea turtles, the area is also teeming with a good variety of marine life and beautiful tropical fish which seem to be nearly tame.
  General da best!!!!

Know thy ability
Fun spot but more sketchy than most beginners realize. Surf school isn't bad cause it keeps the riff raff in the back. People think this a easy place to learn and it is-when it's small. But when it gets fun-sized the kooks start panicking and the lifeguards are always rescuing people who shipwreck on the rocky shore. Oh and big surf and low tide can be really ugly if you get caught. You will take a serious reef pounding and get tossed into the rocks.

TO SURFER GIRL
I brought my short board here and had to hire a longboard as the waves were pretty weak for the first week. Then one day it picked up to about head-high and was quite powerful. I unfortunatly had left my short-board at the condo, which was a bit of a walk, so decided to paddle out on the longboard. I stayed mainly on the shoulder, catching wide waves and smaller inside ones. This was out of both, respect for the locals and the fact I didn't fancy taking drops on the unfamilar longboard. I was kinda happy catching the wide waves and those missed by the local crew, then this girl was like "you know if your a beginner, the inside can be fun, it gets quite heavy out here"Although my surfing may not have been quite up-to the standard of most of these locals, I have probably been surfing longer than this cocky chick. For some reason (sucked her way thru the line-up, dad's an old pro, I dunno), this chick gets all the waves here. Her style ain't that good, most of the guys are better, they just let her get waves. I'd love to see this girl surf another spot, maybe on one of the island that gets decent swell (and not on the one where she lives with the weakest swell of the islands). I'd love to see her handle some size, and to try and get waves.I know, the whole local thing, I have my own local spot. As surfers, we travel, we give respect and expect it back. LET'S RESPECT LOCALS, BUT LETS ALSO RESPECT THOSE WHO RESPECT YOU!! YOU NEVER KNOW YOU MIGHT WANT TO SURF THEIR SPOT SOMETIME!!!
