Upham
Friendly surfers and good conditions after a good storm. Hard to get past the break during hurricane Dennis.

Waaaay outside Upham reefbreak
Ok - I'm about to disclose a secret to everyone here that only hardcore cool people know about. Shhh. Don't tell anyone about it. On strong West swells, if you paddle a mile offshore from Upham, there's an outside reef that holds an 8' top to bottom soooper hollow wave. It's sharky as hell and is generally only visited by the ghost of Silas Dent, but it's well worth the three hour paddle. Also sometimes on real strong ENE days, you can surf it in reverse. I saw Laird out there two months ago going gonzo with his tow in team. It's a pretty hardcore wave.

Surf Upham Beach?
How can anyone talk about surfing the Gulf? There are no waves. I repeat: THERE ARE NO WAVES! Even after a hurricance the waves aren't anything to brag about! Current is strong, but not much wave!

Love from the North
3 years ago, I was travelling with a friend around North America. She had 1 contact in Florida, who happened to be Joe Nuzzo of the Suncoast Surf Shop in Treasure Island. We showed up at the shop and everyone became like family. If it wasn't for Joe I would not have been introduced to the wonderfull world of surfing. For 2 years after, when the east coast of Canada got cold, I'd travel back down to see all my beach friends and surf Upham's and Brandenton. Always loved seeing the old school guys out on their longboards. Thank's to everyone I've been super stoked since. We don't have many surf competitions up here in Canada, but last year I competed in The Canadian Surf Competition and placed 2nd in the women's division and made top open novice, then this year I competed in the Nova Scotia Competition and placed 1st in the women's division and made it to the semi-finals against the guys. Thank you so much to everyone at the beach for giving me this stoke that keeps growing. This summer I passed the stoke on to 15 kids in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia who had never even seen surfing. They're all hooked now.

Lots of love to couch Carl, Joe Nuzzo, Star, Roger, Plumber Bill, Maria, surfer Bob, Rosie and everyone else at the beach. Miss you lots and hope to surf this great spot again.

PS. We still surf Nova Scotia in the winter but the water temp is now just hovering above freezing and the air temp has been -20 Celsius with the wind. Don't have to worry about the beach being too crowded in the winter.
