Sharks, seals and whales - Update: shark spotted mid-April, chased several surfers out of the water. No surprise considering the huge numbers of seals and whales in the area.

Useful Info - I just thought that this little bit of info should be added to the spot. Davenport probably has the highest incident of shark attacks in all the Santa Cruz area. Although I've surfed it plenty of times myself and there are always people out there- before one gets into the water they should be aware of the fact that Davenport is not just a little bit sharky like all the spots north of town, it probably is the sharkiest.

no heavy locals? - I saw a guy burn a local, he got his fins punches right out of his board and a huge bite out of the rail. The local guy really bit into his board and spit the piece of foam and fiber glass in the guys face and with a bloody foaming mouth said your done GO HOME!!! I was right there saw the whole thing. You burn here you learn here BRO! If someone is waitng for a wave and you paddle around them or under them do not say a word when they burn you. Wait your turn be respectful and you'll be OK

I have surfed here for over 30 years I surfed here in 1972 when it was a soul spot never more then 2-3 guys in the mid 80's now I think it has turned into a long board with large crowds whenever it is even close to good. Lots of FNG's now
