Additional Surfing Infos
Nice point break when breaking! Needs to be at least 4 ft swell. Great beginner spot.

A winter break that doesn't work as often as we'd all like because it needs a direct west swell. The Channel Islands block summer south swells, and steep northerly swells don't hit right.
  Overview
Atmosphere As far as campgrounds go, Refugio has it all for ocean folk - a potentially fun little point break, awesome fishing / kayaking / kelp forests to the north and south, a great beach, great camp sites, RV hookups, a beer store, etc ... but beware ... it's notorius for being the toughest place to reserve a campsite during peak season, Even when we try to plan ahead, we get somehow get screwed, their reservation system is lame-o.

RE: It's Ree-few-geo to locals.
You're probably that kook from Ojai that tries to vibe people out there. HAHA. Get back in your RV and split!

Locals?
Refugio local? Never met one. I have only met other people camping out in the water. Never had any problems because everyone in the water has always been cool. It is a great place to take the family, relax, and enjoy a beautiful beach.

It's Ree-few-geo to locals.
refugio isn't the best break around...it doesn't break that much, but when it does, it's good. Refugio the beach isn't pronounced ree-fu-fee-ho...re-fabio or re-fruitable....although re-fu-fee-o would be correct spanish locals call it re-few-geo..the gringo way. You can call it what you want, we locals will know you're not when we hear you say re-fu-fee-ho. Once in a while some LAP (that be Los Angeles Prick) shows up and thinks he or she more likely, is gonna rip and give an expedition and hog the very few waves that show up..expect that. But don't think ya gotta take it. No locals ever do, neither should you. One good drop in front of and they melt away. Usually they're so narsistic they think you're gonna let them get away with their shit. Don't. As for quad whatever's???? Put that on your board next time you're there...yeah...I know. You're a sissy bitch fool with nothing better to do.
