Lefts and Rights is one of many great surf spots in the Hollister Ranch. The ranch is only accessible by car if you know someone who lives there. The property is private and the locals do not appreciate outsiders. Locals park their 4WD on the beach in front of the break.
This is the most consistant Ranch wave and also the most crowded. Do not attempt to park your boat near the reef or walk in- a five mile walk from Gaviota- and surf. Everyone knows everyone and you will not be able to hide in the lineup. It is one very compact peak that breaks on a track and peals off in perfection for fifty yards. This wave breaks year-round which is very unique at the Ranch.

General
If you want to surf the Ranch, be really nice to as many Santa Barbara surfers as you can. Eventually, someone will invite you because the place is too special to keep to themselves.
me and four friends boated in last winter, anchored outside the break, and scored perfect head high glassy barrels by ourselves for 2 hours. where were the big, bad locals?

Lefts and Rights
Here is a poem to help you picture this wave:
Ice cold, biting offshore winds, virgin beach, million dollar homes here and there, no one for miles. The Channel Islands off to your left, dark blue water ahead with lots of kept to keep the sharks away. Bumps in the water, a two paddle take off, up quick, crouch in tight, wind in your face, the lip pitches, it's dark, then light, you cut back. A thirty second rush. You paddle back out, do it again and again until you are ready for a warm cabana shower and oreos in the car. Hope someone brought hot coffee. On the way back to the car, you wonder if it is worth picking up the abalone shell in the sand. Humm, might make a nice gift for my girlfriend?

Lefts and Rights
This place is very special and known by thousands of surfers. If you even hope to see it one day, be really nice to people and they might tell you more.
