Additional Surfing Infos
The waves get larger as you go north towards the pier, during the summer months (and especially weekends) it's like a damn surfboard convention packed with surfers out in the lineup.. not even worth going out.
  Overview
Atmosphere Great if it's not crowded, generally unless there is a storm the waves are small and tame. Great for longboards. There are some old guys who surf out there during the summer and it's advised to stay away from them. It's a basic beach break.
General When it's crowded, dont go. Period. Otherwise it's a great little break. No stress, good form for the little waves they are and they get even better during a storm.

OB Local
The Holy Grail of waves for bitchy lesbo's and other 'too cool for school' longboard/funboard entitlements. Plenty of attitude that is usually reserved for performance, but without the performance part. Just a bunch of people who think they're really hot sh_t while nevering executing a turn or maneuver. Surf at Blacks where the waves are real and any attitude is backed up with actual performance.

"Local" is right...to a point.
this place WILL fire...look at the fotos, the pix don't lie.

This place IS a girl's break, and has been since the 70's when there were a couple of SD local girls who were on the Pro scene. They used to surf this place every day. Also, this spot is LOADED with barnos from Clairemont, Poway and during the summer you'd think this place was Arizona, there's so many Zonies.

Generally, this spot is tied with Coronado's Silver Strand for worst beachbreak in SD, winter and summer. Dribbly, weak buttsauce. But every once in a lifetime, usually during a heavy Winter storm when every other spot in the city is out of control, this place will put out big, well-shaped powerful lines. The pix are a good indicator of how good this place can get, and I've witnessed it a few times over the years. That doesn't mean I'll ever surf this place, because there's too many other spots that will be firing when this place eventually goes off.

Just saying, every dog has his day.
