Additional Surfing Infos
Go dowm towards wetlands area, go south towards mex., any side street or parking lot will do. Easy access, no showers, 7-11 for food at pier. Spots north of pier are seldom surfed, poor quality. Water is generally full suit, cold.

Pay attention to the water quality, pollution is real here. Very Real.
  Overview
Atmosphere Pick a spot, it can be crowded with locals, hasselrama but there are many breaks open since it's a beach break.
General South swells during june, july or north during december, january best bets. Blows out at 10-11am daily, glasses off 4pm-evening. Crummy sand pebble beach, but fun surf during summer, over 8' go north.Tiajuana sloughs is spooky, breaks about 1/4-1/2 mile offshore near the border, take buddies for T. J. sloughs. Reported to be most poluted beach in USA, sewage from Mexico, don't drink the water.

IB is hard surfing
Surfing IB when it is on is very tough surfing and paddling. This is a serious wave, whether you are north or south of the pier. Personally, I think IB is one of the hardest places to surf in SD County. If you can surf here, you can surf anywhere. The drops can be huge, the speed on the face amazingly quick, and the paddle back to the line-up crazy hard. My experience, is that it is best to be there before 11am because after that it kinda sucks, though there are less people after 11am and you can have the whole thing to yourself somedays. There are some young guys and girls there who can really rip. Concerning pollution, yes, it is true. IB can be nasty as hell. However, when it is clean and there is a nice SW swell coming through, it is probably the most underated place in all of SoCal. If you have the courage to make the drop on a 10-12 foot vertical wall that shows no mercy, go for it! There is no gradual drop here when it is huge. It's all or nothing on those huge clean days.

hot chocolate with blazin' raisins!!!
during the wintertime after the rains, the water will resemble your toilet after eating lots of Mexican food and beer, and taking the subsequent power dump.

Yummy.
