Just too crowded
This place is so crowded. Everybody with every type of board is represented. If the wave was not so good it would be a waist of time. It gets old waiting your turn just to have someone paddle right in front of you or behind you and call you off. Full of janitors as well!

Pollution In The Air Not In The Water
Ok, I keep seeing people commenting about who polluted the water is here with turds and what have you. This is not the case at all. Now I assume you are saying this since it smells really bad there. Well thats because of the lagoon, the ocean can't replenish it very well for some reason, reasons I am not exactly sure. But I know that the water gets very stagnet in there and smells like death. Thats what your smelling and consequently I assume thats why you are complaining that cardiff reef is polluted and has nasty water.

down from santa cruz for a conference
6 to 8' faces on thursday afternoon and fun. first time there. kind of like a combo reef/beach break; lot of duck diving to get to the outside. got rights and lefts and the small weekday crowd was friendly, especially since I don't imagine too many spongers ride here. I guess it helps if you have a clue and I do.

who is that guy?
There is a guy on a longboard,red,who hops and twirls his 9.0,.He isnt happy with one wave every set but needs two or three. If you see him stay clear because its very dangerous to be behind infront or near him.He is easy to spot due to the actuall hoping the board and arms waving up and down. This is no joke.

On a good size swell this place really turns on - otherwise it tends to have worse conditions than surrounding breaks. I've checked out Cardiff Reef after work and found much better waves @ "Restaurants" on the same day. Nice thing to have restrooms onsite to change / go to the bathroom. Typically on a decent day there is a pack of longboarders on the South peak and shortboarders on the cranking North peak. Stay out of the way and don't bail your board behind you and you'll be ok. Don't underestimate Cardiff- on a big day the wave is very thick, and very powerful.

Good times to be had (on your longboard)
Nice soft waves that have some speed. I have only been surfing for about 5 months and this place makes you feel invicible. The waves that would normally kill you at GrandView keep their shape here so have no fear. I was out on labor day it was extremely foggy but the best waves I have seen all summer. Super packed -- like 130 people surfing. Mostly buoys from the campground. Plenty of room for everyone and nonstop sets rolling in.

If you want to witness the most hideous surfing look for the guy on the big red longboard hoping and wanking on every wave out there.And I do mean every wave because the guy isnt fullfilled unless he can bounce,hop,and wank on all possible waves.Thats some ugly agro stuff.

stop the pollution
Congress is trying to pass a bill to allow mixed raw sewage and treated sewage to be dumped as a blend into the ocean after every time it rains. Even though it seems like this has already been going on for quite some time. Please help stop them from making this a legal procedure! Go to Surfline.com and click on the link under local knowledge to keep more poo from entering our lineup.
