Only breaks at the north end of the state park . This spot is right at the end of Poinsettia Road off of the I-5 in carlsbad. But you have to turn north onto the 101 and make a u-turn at the soonest light. then you can turn into the lot at the campground. only can park there during the winter. Then park at the dirt lot just north of ponto.
Obtain a pass from park ranger's office or pay for day use. Also try parking off the road's shoulder in the dirt lot north of the park.
Overview
Atmosphere
A consistent alternative to the very crowded area of Carlsbad/Oceanside/Leucadia & Encinitas. Occasional rights, mostly good lefts on any swell, best combo is during the late fall season. The park's solar heated showers are a fine bonus!
General
Go for it twice & you are the new local king; as long as you're not wimpy like the Stizzy's boy toys!

Stizz is a newcomer here!
From 1985-1987 I surfed tower 10 with half a dozen tourists or less, no matter what the season it was never crowded, the lefts were the feature and not much else in the park was worthwhile. Stizz is the nickname for any dudes who paddle-out with jizz still in their mouth, the latest Stizz dude was in kneepads when this spot was still a semi-secret left reefbreak.
