It only breaks on high tide and larger swells. When it is good there is a crazy boil that works most surfers, but it can get really good. Never seen it hollow. The best takeoff is against the rock, unless it is really big in which case you can takeoff fron the outside reef. Like all the reefs in Laguna it is a quirky wave.
Overview
Atmosphere
There were some really good photos of this place in Surfing Magazine a few years back, in fact it made the cover after a good hurricane swell came. I have seen it break on tons of different swell directions, but it needs to be really big and you need a good mid/high tide or else the reef is exposed, especially at the boil. The higher the tide the safer it gets.
General
No secret to anyone in the area, parking it the hardest part. Few check it regularly because it is not often good. When it gets good everyone will come out to check it and it will get crowded fast. No complaining about "someone posting this spot" because it is the oldest "secret" in SoCal that everyone knows about. Laguna Beach is no secret -- it's so rarely good that no one bothers.
im the best
anyone who says this is a serious wave is retarded, this wave is a unpredictable mushy peice of shit

this wave is nothing to screw around with. if you aren't a life long surfer, has surfed some scary waves before, dont come here. I have watched guys try to charge the boil, and get thrown to the bottom, and then on into the rock spikes on the inside. people get pissed at kooks here, because if someone gets fouled up by a kook, it doesnt end with just a bruised ego... it ends in the rocks.
