Drive the coast road, park on the side of the road when you can first see the big rock alone on the ocean, then run hootin and hollerin through the scrubgrass to the ocean. Dont park on the beach road to the rock or youll get a ticket. I think you can get a ticket here just for surfing anyway but I never have. Not a public beach.
Sometimes paddle is tough, and its random where on the beach it will break best. Put bushes and branches on your car to ensure that you dont get a ticket. Binoculars are a good bet, because its hard to tell how good it is from the road. Bigger than it looks though for sure.
Overview
Atmosphere
Ive never surfed here with anyone except the people I came with which is Pat only. Cleanest water I have ever surfed too. You can see the bottom while riding if the day is sunny
General
Good spot. Crowd is not a factor so even little chunky waves are fun here.
it's not the whales
mid-70s - it wasn't a killer whale, it was a white that chomped a guy. It happened a couple of times there, which since it's hardly ever surfed, is a lot. Plus now the fine is $240 if you're caught.

Saw a whale in the line up
Last summer I stopped to check this spot from the road. After about ten minutes I saw the Black truck escorting a couple groms back to the road. On my way back the same day I could see a whale cruising the line up. Dont know what kind, but big enough to see from the freeway.
