try fisherman's wharf! yeah that's the mysto spot in PG!! seriously...asilomar or the beaches north and south of town if the reefs/pt in PG aren't working...for visitors, better stick to the beaten path and expect to wait on the periphery at the reefs/points...be polite and don't leave valuables in your car if you can't see it from the beach...

Try Asilomar Beach There is some "surfing" at Asilomar beach. Small waves, unpredictable, use a long board or even a faom floater. It's probably not the first experience your looking for, but if it's your only chance...

visiting I am bringing my nephew to Pacific Grove area as a graduation gift to surf. He has never been to California. Where are some good surfs spots around and in the area?

Next to Fisherman's Wharf You forgot to mention that the spot is right next to Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. If it's not breaking there, your only chance for waves is up in Santa Cruz.

ummmm wtf mate? I live in PG and have never heard of a surf spot called "pacific grove". what the crap are you talking about?
