Additional Surfing Infos
The closer you get to the Jetty (this is at the end of the parking area), the smaller it is, and it is much easier to paddle out. As you move to the North, the waves build up considerably in size, with less places to make it out! This is the closest this area has to Puerto Escondito! It is not uncommon to see Hawaii quality tubes with waves spitting up and down the beach. Look for North swells with Long periods.
  Overview
Atmosphere If you are new to the spot, it IS the BEST SURF SPOT IN CALIFORNIA. The problem is that it is also the most localized. Go figure, the small waves down by the Jetty are where the most hassles are! Go toward the dunes (5 to 10 min to the north of the Jetty), and you are more likely to get punished by the sneaking set waves (as it is usually 2 to 4 feet bigger that the jetty!) Again... Beginning to advanced surfers down at the Jetty; advanced surfers ONLY at the dunes .
General THIS IS THE BEST SPOT IN CALIFORNIA
picture was taken on the day Mark Foo died!

Alt View...Fun Beachbreak. Fickle, can get good, but on average it is poor to fair at best. Head to Santa Cruz to get better waves.
Alt View2: Park out of sight, don't let the locals see your car!!! Beware.....The Locals are assholes. Tread Lightly. By no means is this the best spot in California. The water is contaminated, the locals are dicks, there have been many shark sightings and the waves are usually shit and blown out.

Tricky Stuff
Wayne how is it possible to submit a photo for a photo contest of yourself, that appears to have been taken from the beach by non other than yourself. Next thing you know their will be an online interview of yourself interviewed by yourself. Oh wait you have already done that on your personal surfing athelete website you know the one with all the pictures of the landing, good work.

Sellout
W.K. continues to post photos of M.L. on the internet on major surf sites. He is the biggest sellout in the history of Monterey County Surfing. Dont blame the south bay guys as the crowds grow.

Hatred and localism.
I've been surfing Moss Landing for a while now and do live in the area (not IN moss) but don't consider myself a local. I see all the hatred back and forth and am frankly sickened by it. Both the locals and visitors show disrespect at times especially in these posts. However I have NEVER seen this type of behavior. If you don't show respect to the beach and others (regardless of local or not!)then you don't belong in the water.Plain and simple. That is the whole premise of surfing not who owns what or who belongs. Go out have fun. The locals are just trying to scare you into staying away. I've never seen anyone get punched or speared. You guys have seen dogtown and z boys too many times.I do have to agree with the locals though when it comes to calling all your buddies and crowding the beach. That falls under the respect others category. Locals...Don't be assholes. Visitors...DON'T BE ASSHOLES. Concentrate on surfing instead of who's pissing you off at the moment cause then you might wind up having fun.
