what a kook... "...jumping the lineup? that means he lives there and has the boils/rocks wired and knows who deserves a turn and who doesn't...on such a focused local peak, there's no courtesy unless you've known each other for years, etc." I suppose next time you travel to my spot I'll decide that you don't deserve a turn either. Having a spot wired is far different from snaking everyone by standing on the rock. You think that's "local knowledge" that standing on the rock puts you inside of everyone? Gimme a break, that's just proof of how ignorant you are. Monterey has more than it's fair share of spoiled little rich kids, and brown trout just proved that to anyone with doubt about that.

south swell hahahaha...south swell!!! ...jumping the lineup? that means he lives there and has the boils/rocks wired and knows who deserves a turn and who doesn't...on such a focused local peak, there's no courtesy unless you've known each other for years, etc. ...lived across the street for years and surfed there all the time...after surfing numerous "localized" spots from Silver Strand to Fullers, etc. this is the only place where someone copped such an attitude that they flat out asked me where I lived! ...Crap wave unless big...Fun for kayaks/longboards when small, however...Watch the turds too...PG is notorious for stormwater/wastewater issues...

locals who rip? ha! maybe there are locals, i've only surfed here a handful of times. i'm not a ripper by any means, but of the 10 plus people i saw out there, only one could consistently make the drop and TURN. whatever.

Rocky Rocks everywhere. There are no waves in the summer. Great at any tide. Best on a large NWN swell. Doesn't take a south. Locals are cool. Newbies don't seem to have a clue where to wait for waves. There is a pier with rocks is right in front. Despite what others say, there are 2 parking lots & plenty of street parking. It's located at the bottom of Forest. Water is full of E. Coli though.

Locals Shmokals... I'm tired of hearing of all the localism in waters surrounding my home town of PG. The vast majority of guys in the line-up are mellow guys. Most all of the pages of comments describing Monterey Bay area, have gripes about the guys in the water. You make it sound like it is a different vibe than any other critical surf spot on the planet. Yes, we get good surf and like anywhere else it gets critical when the waves are good. On any given day though, if you paddle out and hang out on the shoulder for a bit you in turn will be able to enjoy some of Californias best surf, like the rest of us. See you out there.

word word. that's why monterey spots won't ever get truly crowded, because every time you go out here or anywhere in the area, you're making a decision that could kill you. lovers gives this illusion of safety because you're so close to the tourists taking pictures and the kids climbing on the rocks, but the fact is there's nothing to stop a big whitey from cruising up and chomping your legs off. if it makes you feel better tho, i surfed here at night plenty of times. be careful people, monterey'll kill ya if you give it the chance.

locals? Actually, the only "real" locals (localizing the place for centuries before any human touched the water!) here are the great whites. this is also the spot of the first documented fatal shark attack in California in 1952 on a 15 year old swimmer, Brookner Brady. A picture of the mangled body was shown in that one scene in the movie Jaws, when Roy Schneider was flipping through a book on shark attacks - Brookner Brady was the black and white photo of a mangled body on the corner table. Have fun trying to explain your "locals only" philosophy to them!

riiiight riiight, i'm sure you are just the most awesome surfer out there, i can tell by your modesty. my guess is you are one of the guys who stands on the rock and cuts in front of everyone. anyhow, it seems to me that lovers' is done for this year. when i'm out in hawaii next winter with warm weather and better waves, i WON'T be thinking of the dozens of "locals" who steal waves from each other at this spot. i'm not dissing the wave, just a hefty portion of the cool guys who think they own this spot. share the ocean folks (cripeS!!)
