Really? I just moved here from the islands… I’m surprised and sad at what Surfing has become in the mainland. People should not be fighting and bickering at each other in the water, we are all in the water to get away from the “land” of competition and stress. Just cruise.

I Had This Conversation Before It went something like this...Johnny Utah: Okay. I get it. This is where you tell me that "locals rule", and that Yuppie insects like me shouldn't be surfing the break, right? Bunker Weiss: [smiling] Nope. Surf gang: That would be a waste of time... Lupton "Warchild" Pittman: We're just gonna f**k you up!

Washed up and Conflicted I don't wanna be a star. Have my picture in magazines, have a bunch of kids looking up to me. I'm a drunk, Bear, a screw up. I just surf cause its good to go out and ride with your friends. I don't even have that anymore.(But I wouldn't mind being discovered by Hollywood)

"ease up or else guy" fighting has been my profession for 20 years, I have typically found that people who talk the way you have about kickin ass, usually can't kick ass at all. Talk is talk, othing more. Good luck to you and hopefully for you, you won't be rude to me out there!

Take a valium! Holy cow man! ease up. Surfin's supposed to be fun not a war. If you really want to kill someone join the army and go to Iraq - Mr Bush will love ya for it. Otherwise tgake a big dose of valium and have a good little nap.

Everyone ease up!!..or else.. Surfing is a way of life..we are no not Nazi's..I have had no problems at Malibu..sure the Long boards dominate..but it is a 3 point break. To the locals..be careful who you jack and threaten in the surf unless you are willing to pay the ultimate price for your actions..some old school folks like me dont play that game..someones runs into me, or threatens me, or runs into me intentional on ANY break will deal with me on the beach. One of 2 things will, happen--I will kill them..bash their heads in with a baseball bat..I mean it..& go to prison for my actions--or they they will have to kill me-and then they will go to prison--So dont intimidate people unless you are willing to pay the ULTIMATE price..I got no problems with it..so beware..the next guy you snake and run over could be your last...so..ease up and surf..unless you think it's worth dying for....

Malibu Inspiration I am setting out to drop out of society for a week I want to go to Malibu and re write some surf diaries I lost durring my last trip. I have these images of Lance Carson and Miki Dora tearing the place up while the kooks look on from the water and the Hodads look on from shore. I have this fantasy about camping out north of Malibu and discovering other nice spots, all while on a bohemian surf experience, often lost in todays capitalistic narcicistic society. I wish we could eat little and surf a lot but unfortunately the oposite is too often true. Great times were had on low budget Wayamia Bay when Greg Noll and Miki Munoz did the big wave thing back in the 60's. I have not perfected Malibu at 4 to 6 feet yet, so I can only immagine the transformation Miki made when he jumped to 20 Wayamia. Say what you want about his cocky antics and cc fraud, but when it comes right down to it he is still to this day the king of Malibu, the way Greg Noll was at Wayamia, Byron Heart was at Byron's and Laird Hamilton is at Jawz. I am a kook from New York earning my stipes with broken ribs at Venice BWBroken shoulder at Point Milou and broken toes at ToineyI keep paddling out no matter what. The cocky looks from the locals don't phaze me any more. I just paddle out stand up and drop in. Lately I want to drop out of this chase the dollar like a carrot society and EMBRACE SURF CULTURE FULLY AND WHOLHEARTEDLY.ND 2007

LA Jolla Surfer Or Trumplestilskin, if you prefer. Its a given the Malibu surf scene is like Disneyland, but while there are crowds of people waiting their turn or cutting in line (dropping in), those in the know can still get a classic E-ticket ride at 3rd Pt. But this comparing surf zones by the amount of money on shore? Some places with very high incomes prohibit surfing by blocking off beach access, so please, don't use your high $$$ angle to boost your local spot. One day all the richie rich trust fund kids (grown-ups) of La Jolla may decide to annex the region for their own use, with their rich daddy lawyers legislating it, so please, this is not the place to brag about coastal wealth.

Malibu is a joke. Malibu sucks, period. The waves are small, the water is polluted, and the locals are a joke. The Women in Malibu are cheap and lame (they also live very sheltered lives). The restaurants in Malibu suck as well. If you want to surf in an extremely wealthy area that's like Malibu but is much cleaner, more scenic, and doesn't have the bad sid-effects that surfing at Malibu does, then come down to San Diego and surf in the La Jolla area. Not only is there more money, better restaurants, and better quality women in La Jolla, there is also much better wave action and you won't puke your brains out later in the day after surfing there either.
