Additional Information
If Trolleys is breaking you pretty much have to jump off the end of the pier to make it out. This is illegal and the pier will most likely be closed off if the swell is large enough for it to break and if not, you're in plain view of the lifeguard's headquarters. Go to B-wall instead.
Atmosphere
Hermosa Beach had trolley bus service in the 20's-early 30's and when they were dismantled, some complete units were dumped off the end of the pier (how enviromentally conscious). Sand has accumulated around the cars leaving a defined sandbar which can trip up huge swells.
General
Trolley Car's is a novelty wave and next to impossible to surf without a boat or an extremely long paddle from King Harbor. I've seen it break once on a 11', 22 second swell in 1997 and there was a guy towing into it. Pretty much a stunt drop and then the wave backs off.

sickest pits in winter. - i lived in hermosa for 3 years while compeating on pro tour from 96 to 99 arived in summer and thought the place wes a joke for real surf. being an aussie was usto power surfing.come winter the place is pumping got some of the best pits off the pier stand up fraight traines. the boys there are kings dave hattern jay at the ciggar shop keven at pier surf who hooked me up with boards and billy oswald greg browning and mike balzer you boys rule .jayde (aussie)

PIC ISNT HERMOSA - The pic is of Box Cars in huntington. I know this because i was out that day and long beach harbor is in the background
