Drive through Porthcawl to the sea front and it is the beach in the middle of the Promenade. The main sea front road goes past it. It's in between Rest Bay and Coney Beach.
The Esp is on the front (esplanade). Easy to access with signposts. There is Parking on the front but rarely any spaces!
There are two waves at this spot. Low-tide: a beach break but you have to climb across rocks to get to it. High-tide: a short but can be hollow reef who dumps straight onto to concrete. As the tide gets lower this wave becomes more hollower but shallower.
Best to surf it on a big swell.
Overview
Atmosphere
This spot can fire when on the right swell and wind but don't do not hold your breath. It does not break every day. The locals are very friendly but the peak can get crowded.
Quiet spot not to many surf there.
General
Good wave on the right size swell.
This spot is good when it works and can produce hollow waves with the wave SOMETIMES getting 4ft+.
Its probably cos its a shite hole! The town needs to be knocked down and re-built and the talent needs shaping up!There is no way you get more swell than pembs let alone gower!

Re: Not A Local
It's weird the amount of people that slag off Porthcawl and it's locals. We seem to get a lot of stick from the swansea boys and the llantwit boys. I guess it's jealousy or something. Porthcawl seems to have the most consistent breaks in Wales and has the biggest talent pool too. Legends like Gregg Owen, Rhino, Simon Tucker, Paul Lovell to name but a few.

not a local
this is a sick break but rarely works and when it does the locals are all over it + better spots working along this part of the coast at same time. I dont know why people make fun of the porthcawl locals- the standard is higher than the gower etc (Rhino,Greg etc.).
