When travelling to Hastings from the west, you come to a railway bridge crossing the road above you , turn right after this passed the wood store on the right and up to the beach.
Depressing
What a terrible place. I visited last year for a few days and I regret bringing my board. Dirty and cold water, small sloppy waves and depressing industrial setting. Rock-a-Nore is supposed to be better but I never saw it working in the time I was there. Hastings as a place has a bad rep and a lot of nutters (legacy of Thatcher's care in the community - she sent them all down here) and this is aptly reflected by the attitude shown by locals in the water. Miserable and depressing, but after visiting this surf purgatory I will never complain about my home break again.

This is the most lame surfbreak ever, better to go to a beach break anywhere around here unless your stupid and want to catch coodies there is a pipe that pours out crap when its a gale when its the only time you can surf here....trust me just for losers with no life or girlfriends.

the fishermen can be annoying during weekends and holiday times trying to fish off the concrete where your tryin to surf!!
