muppets - you all moan about the crowds here now ive surfed here for 18 years and i was from the medway towns .what the hell has that got to do with it i now live in thanet but so what.the reason you are all arguing is the crowd problem right?so why do you all take photos af cack surfers on cack waves and plaster them on sites the whole world can see take photos by all means i have a huge collection of classic winter waves but not one has been seen by another person they are my memories ,why do your egos have to have photos put on surfsites for all the world to see of course people are gonna come from all over i dont like crowds but no one owns the ocean and surfing is more popular than ever now get used to it.second problem you have a guy who wants to build on the beach upgrade the surf school etc ha theres your problem hes obviously advertising so again its gonna attract more people.the simple answer is the joss of old has been lost because of ego trippers and greed so if you dont like the situation dont go there .and before people reply to this in a slag off manor think about it because every word is true.surf there enjoy it when its ok waves try to get along but dont expect respect when you could be one of the people with photos all over magicseaweed etc

Seriously mate, i don't even know what a medway town is.

I'm an aussie who's been living near bournemouth for a little while, i was just enjoying a paddle after it had been so bloody flat down here for ages. I watched the storm come down from scotland and looked at the map of england and saw that ramsgate or margate would be the place for the storm swell to hit. I jumped in the car with directions to margate and found my way to a beach from there. I was directed to joss by someone with boards on their car at a service station...

I didn't have anyone to ask about the spot i was sponging at joss, so being quite stoked and curious, i made a comment on here; suddenly i'm being labeled a kook, egotist and being called a gimp.

I'm sorry if i've offended you anonymous locals.

You don't get it kook. - The problem with people like you is that you fail to understand a few fundametals. Firstly, generations of families have surfed Joss since the 1960s and they have more of a right to surf it than you. When its good they should get the waves for all the effort and lost time they dedicate to their spot not some nobody from the medway towns. Secondly, you are clearly part of the crew that gleans more joy from telling everyone about a session rather than enjoying the surf in its own right. Why is that? Ego? I saw your session remember. Finally, We don't need you encouraging more people from out of town. Why not keep the spot quiet? I have travelled extensively and surfed some amazing low key spots. I show the locals respect by keeping them quiet in the hope that when I go back they'll let me score some waves and maybe a few beers and smiles. Learn. Gimp.

its hardly a secret... - So I can walk into joss bay, see a break from the beach and all of a sudden it becomes a secret? C'mon mate, its hardly hidden is it? No one else was out, I wasn't cutting anyone's grass. I was curious to know why there was nobody surfing it, that's all. I hope you have the pleasure of traveling to another country to surf one day, maybe then you'll understand the ocean is there to be shared and enjoyed by all...

Saw your session - Yep mate I watched your session from the top of the cliff. You should have been taking off deeper but i saw you get a few. You were surfing the cabbage patch. Us locals have been surfing that left for years so shut up about it and it might remain a secret. Gimp.

9th of November - Flat for ages on the south coast; so i made a trek to Joss Bay to make the most of the recent storms in Scotland and their subsequent effect they had on the swell of the east coast. I was sponging it and decided to go for a nice wedge that was working on the reef to the right hand side of the bay; about 300 or so meters to the right. It was cranking! Had a great off/cross shore blowing and got deep in a couple of nice pits... I couldn't believe the other surfers and bodyboarders were happy with the sloppier beach breaks. Sure, it was pretty shallow over the reef; but the wave quality was pretty sweet for an English wave! It was well worth the two and a half hour drive there... I'm still amped from it!

Joss is great - There is loads of friendly helpfull surfers down there and surfing is a big attraction to the area the sqwells were really big the other day and I go thee all the time its a great beach still with wonderfull surroundings and many experianced surfers so SHUT UP DON'T DISS IT lol

- joss bay is a pile of sh*t sh*t sh*t with local yobs stealing my boards and kicking in the panels of my camper van, man, that place sucks.
even on a good day, and i have been there on a suposedly "epic" day, the waves were wussy waist high mush with no girth , no length, no nuffin. save your money for a DECENT surf spot. just think, every time i see a almost 3 star rating on the majic seaweed,i put the tenner petrol and tea money in a pot, and by next christmas i will have a new board!
