Characteristics
This is the most Overpopulated, overworked stressed out area of England unfortunately in recent years this has transfered into the line up. The surf is generally inconsistent and of poor quality by world standards.

Dominant Swell and Wind Direction :
The south coast relies on channel swells that are south to west in direction and are most consistent from September through to November. The Thanet region of kent is unique in that it has beaches that face north east and south and due to its geographical location can pick up North Sea swells as well as channel swells.

Every now and again there's a little groundswell that makes it all worth while but generally surfing in this area means a grim rainy day, getting battered by the gale force prevailing SW winds just to get an hour or so's window of blown out slop. So... respect to the persistence of the surfers in this area who get in and make the best of it.
