My third trip to The Bay was not a dissapointment. Greeted by high tide barrels and a stunning sunset. The midges were hell though....as were the blisters!!

A breathtaking place
I have been going there for the last fifteen years or so, driving from London just for the beauty and emptiness of the place, putting up a tent here or there, to hear the roar of the waves when I fall asleep and when I wake up, no ghosts though. I walked also to Cape Wrath and to Kearvaig Bay. Midges are a bitch so if you want to avoid them, don't go there in July and August, adding a week or two on both sides as a precaution. It rains the least in May, and in June you have white nights, when the dusk changes into dawn. Anyone who would like to camp there has, however, to take all fuel in a backpack as there's no driftwood whatsoever.

Ghost
When you ask the locals about the ghost-rather than "bigging it up" they absolutely deny there is one. Scary!!!!!!!

definatly haunted
the place is beautiful, however just make sure you get out of there before night, been there twice and been woken up by a 'presence'.
Think Blair witch and you've almost got it!
no drug or booze in my system at time.

RE ghosts at Sandside
On my last two trips to the North coast i have heard two seperate ghost stories from people camping at this place..one from a lad from edinburgh and one from a lad from aberdeen. Both stories involved waking up in the middle of the night short of breath with a weight (as if someone was sitting) on your chest. This happened on two different occasions to one of the storytellers.however i do know people who have visited the place and not had a supernatural experience...! They do say this place is magical...and thats not just the mushies.

Been back since and I went on my own, not a journey I want to do again on my tod as there was so much to carry this time. Surf was big and powerful, 6'+ the first day and I ventured out only to be destroyed a couple of sets later. The next day swell had dropped a little but was still very powerful. Day I left was solid 4', again with the power, and caught some lovely rides. Gets a bit scary when you're out there on your own! Will back back for the perfect session.

Sandwood + Am Buachaille
The water is the cleanest I have ever seen it in the UK mainland (it's right up there with Shetland). Am Buachaille just south is there for some climbing adventures too... awesome.
