comment Funny comments..all wannasurf pages are the same..seems a societal problem as most surfers in this country suck compared to 10 year old brazilians...so i wouldn't really call em real surfers..anyhows Spekes rocks and as said before the gnarly locals don't live anywhere nearby..I've met the real locals and they're dudes..I'm sure they'd get pissed though afterall it's a rare day we ever get 'good' surf!!

when i see all the comments, it seems that many things have changed. i learned to surf in spekes mill almost ten years ago when I was in a linguistic exchange(i'm french)in a farm close from the spot and the real locals(from Hartland and the farms around)were not more than four or five people and few other people from devon who were knowing the spot. it seems different now!! what a shame that a so beautiful and friendly place became what it seems to be now!! anyway, I hope to go back there one day just to see again the devon coast.

CUMMING BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN Spekes has to be the most fun place to surf. Normally i go down when it looks like there may be a wave, but i've started going down even when its flat now. I've never surfed at a place where the local crew help you in and out of your wetsuit in the toilets and don't charge. They even don't mind putting a bit of vasaline on if you find it chaffes.I would recommend surfing here at any time, but the locals tend to get friendlier towards night time.

vandals The next time a vehicle is vandalised, perhaps it is finally time for someone to involve the police. These guys who think it is acceptable to damage property simply because they wish to create an unpleasant aura at the site they chose to surf require a wake-up call. First step, the law, and if that does nothing, then you would be within your rights to defend yourself and your property.

NOT COMING BACK I should have known, the signs were bad. My camper overheated on the way down from Bristol. Two of my mates started argueing. I ripped the exhaust and engine mountings off the van on the track to the beach but just about made it. Got into the water smashed my board on the rocks after 20 mins. Got back to my camper to find out it was vandalised. Another of our crew got into a fight (and lost). NOt a good weekend. As a bit of advice - leave Speekes to those who enjoy damaging their cars, boards and bodies. NOT ME

Peace love harmony No more swearing, ladies and gents..Seriously though, no I've heard of Spekes' Mill I'll going to divert our surfing trip here. There's about 50 of us from London coming down, all beginners with 12 foot plastic kayaks. We should be practising bongo slides, surfer hacking and inverted brain crackers!See you on the line up!

local schmocal i suppose i could call myself 'local', i live 2 minutes from my local break. but i never thought i had the right to tell visiting surfers to 'f' off because i am lucky enough to live nearer the beach than they do.question is; do you 'local' surfers with a 'local' attitude surf anywhere other than your 'local' break?

lesson of shed twoz in the mists of time that shed filleth in the evil local dragon of spooks hill, the evil local cunteth. Rampage he did until that evil dragon breathed its last berated call as shed droppeth in on the beast. And shedd did not stoppeth there, oh no he went to the island of oahu where he indeed try to slay the dogs that liveth near the pipe...the infamous wolf pak. Shedeth twoz slayed and reduced to ash. Shed did learn that words would not infact harmeth "da pak" and once resorting to weapons he couldeth not compete.
