Great - Surfed over christmas and was good christmas eve. really fun. went back 3 more days but wasnt working. guess you have to catch it when its on...

not worth it - surfed here today in 2-3ft bit lumpy, windy and sectiony, 50 people in the water could barely move or catch a wave without being dropped in on. whouldnt bother on a cleaner day itll be busier than a meat market

Non-local but lynmouth lover - Have surfed lynmouth for the last 10 years or so. I am not local but check the conditions and make the 2 hour drive whenever I think its going to be on. Have only been skunked a few times over the years. I always try to be polite. I can fully understand how the locals feel. Our local beach is constantly innundated with kook students. Thats why I generally come on my own or with 1 other as it can be bloody frustrating when 4 cars turn up with 5 guys to each car. Lynmouth isn't a secret spot as such but you just have to watch the charts and tide to know when to get it classic. I certainly never drop in on anyone like certain longboarders I have seen doing on a regular occasions. When will they learn - its dangerous and frigging annoying. I ride all length of boards from 6'4-9'0. So i am not a longboarder hater. Thanks to the locals for for sharing anyway.

re: so what - I think the point is that Lynmouth is not your average wave. The conditions and can change very quickly. You can have horrendous rips to contend with, salmon posts (which have almost drowned better than average surfers). I agree that visiting surfers should not be abused, but bear in mind that regular surfers at a break like Lynmouth do not want to be fishing incompetent surfers out of a rip, picking them off the rocks or untangling them from the salmon posts.Saunton, puttsborough, Croyde (high tide), middle beach and woolacombe are plenty good enough waves.

so what - i'm a balding, middle aged fat bloke. i've been riding a longboard for several years and i still can't even pop up properly.does that mean i can't surf where i want? i'm fit, i don't drop in (ever) and i can wobble along in a fairly controlled manner. i surf all year round, any break that is working, any time of the year and that includes the severn bore in both sub zero conditions and in total darkness. as i am neither local to newquay nor a shithot shortboarder. getting attitude from local pups can rankle. every time i encounter wet folk , either in the carpark or out back i ALWAYS smile and am nice to everyone. afterall, we do have something in common.........ok, thankfully we are not clones , or instant mates or familys but there is a very loose common bond...............oh no, i'm starting to sound like a hippy.anyway, rant overstay warmstay safe

- surfers code seems to be none existent at this spot, i'm guessing people think it's alright to drop in on someone clearly up and riding. It's dangerous for a start and pointless especially as said incident the people dropping in blatantly can't surf properly wobbling to their feet, if you haven't got the abillity don't surf here it's dangerous and damn right irrasponsible (however you spell that). This will probably fall on death ears

What do you expect? - Well done for getting great Lucky but can you blame locals you giving the evil eye when blow -ins regularly go home and broadcast to the world about their super perfect surf session. It does no one any favours. Best to surf more and say less.
