Towan beach has restrictions May-September - no surfing only bodyboarding until 6pm each evening.

Hi anonymous,
i have just started surfing, and I don't want to be thought of as a coward. It is sooooo uncool! Next time you go surfing at a non-cowards break, take me with you. I need to shake this "coward" label that I have been branded with, and going surfing with the big boys would certainly do that, even though my ability would probably not match the conditions, and I might get into difficulties, and I might get in your way a lot. You could turn all the cowards into non-cowards and then we could all surf with you at the big-boys' spots. Wouldn't that be smashing Anonymous, all those people with no ability surfing all your favourite spots. Maybe it is a good thing that there are spots where novices can learn and improve and stay away from the more experienced or "macho" surfers like you.

judging by your description of the waves and people you haven't. waves - gutless closed out and shitty. surfers - thousands of them, mostly middle - aged and on longboards.

Amazing barrel
this wave is an amazing 10 second barrel then a 20 second open wall to shred apart if your as good as me. at this spot i make slater look shit. im so good. only surf here if you can do 8ft airs like me. wat else can i say!!!! I rip and you know it!!! yes i do!!!

Winter Shizzle
Since moving back to the U.K from Oz three years ago I've spent nearly all my British surf time in Newquay. I'd say that from mid October right through to April this town has the frendliest, most chilled out people you could hope to meet ant the vibe is super mellow. Towan through to Great Western can really turn on some punchy waves when Fistral and Hollywell are blown out. If the swell is right it will peel and the harbour wall and cliffs offer good shelter from the howling westerlys. Just enjoy the place! Peace.

it can be 'ok'!
the backwash happens on a spring tide on a big swell - only rideable in summer as spring highs are around 6pm or so, and its dark in winter at that time.
