High cliffs overlook 4 miles of beach. At low tide it is broken into the areas Tregantle (firing range), Sharrow,Happy Valley, Tregonhawke (cafe-rocks), Boiler Beach. Rips can be strong at low tide and waves break a long way out on big swells. High tide produces enclosed bays (hence crowded) with a more punchy wave and shelter from strong winds. Occasionally picks up swell from strong East/SE winds where Bantham would not. There are lifeguards at Tregonhawke, Sharrow & Tregantle in summer. The ferry ride from Plymouth usually means it takes a while for the word to get round so you could get the beach to yourself. There is parking at various spots along the cliff -all but one is free. Sharks in UK
Well, the basking sharks visit the UK waters in summer months, and you have open water sharks (blues and makos),so no worries at all.
