How waves break
A wave breaks on the first reef it hits that's shallow enough to make it break - if it hits a very shallow reef it doesn't mean the wave will be smaller, and it'll probably actually be slightly bigger. The formula that waves break where the depth is roughly the same as the wave height only tends to work for beach breaks with gentle inclines.

Maybe you need to learn a bit about how waves work,in general as waves get bigger they need more depth to break properly, as in Pipeline when it gets big breaks on the 2nd or 3rd reef out.
If the water you surf in is only 2 ft deep, it is probably likely that the height of the waves you surf is pretty similar.

i think you're confused, mate - this is cornwall... quite right, not everyone has the ability to surf shallow reefs. the point i was trying to make is if you have to come somewhere like this to find out if a reef is surfable, then you shouldn't be bothering. if you can do it, you'll know as soon as you look at the wave, if you have to uhm and ah about it, you'll probably just get fucked. its all about confidence. believe and ye shall see.

if you don't like to surf in less than two feet of water, you're missin out on just about every class reef in the world. and if you're worried about bouncing off rocks, then you haven't got the headspace, have you? sounds to me like you pretend to like reefs but prefer it if the water is 4 foot deep. stop pretending, buy a foamboard and stick to polzeath. if there is enough room for your fins, its surfable, and if you don't get that then you should be calling yourself mr. sludgebollox.

if you're worrying about sharp rocks and hazards surely you're missing the point, aren't you? either stick to beachbreaks or charge it and accept you're gona get hurt.

Reefy Left
I saw a nice looking left hander off the rocks at the far end of Boobys but couldn't get close enough to see if it was safe. Does anyone know if theres sharp rocks or other hazards around this break? Its just that nobody seemed to be surfing it.
