Not that good - The chics are nice but you better drive a couple of hours to the west, to Santander area, where there are girls too but better waves. Zarautz gets too crowded and is a bit expensive. Finding parking is sometimes imposible, specially in summer weekends. Waves dont appear much in summer, and in the fall they get bigger, but hard to surf because of the sudden shorebreak and also they are not too long. I prefer the Cantabria area, specially Berria, Langre or Somo. This spots are clean, you can enjoy the wild nature around, usually park right by the beach, and most important, waves are powerfull, clean and long. Anyway, if you prefer sitting by the "malecon" watching girls walk by, you better stay in Zarautz.

Good surf

STOKED!! - Going to San Seb and Zarautz next week. If everything I've been hearing about the women and waves is true, it should be the trip of a lifetime.

Aloha!

Poor - Surfer there for over 7 years cause it's nearest beach from home.Lineup full of kooks and wealthy childrens, dirty water(unbelievable in summer),unbelievable over-crowded,poor waves most of days,...
If you wanna get drunk and eat nice pintxos,go there.Best waves(and girls too!)in SW coast in France.

Send regards to local (310) guys, all of you make it real babys!

See you in your shit's puddle soon.

it does get big - spent 3 three weeks in Zarautz.. Some days there were no waves at all, but other days got a beautifull 7 ft swell. I had a great time and would LOVE to go back again..

Great, great place! - Just come back from two weeks in Zarautz, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Apart from the surfing, which is very good (mid/low-tide recommended)the people are the friendliest I've ever met, especially Marcello and Jose who work in the Pukas surf-hire shop in the centre of beach. There doesn't seem to be much localism among the surfers, provided you are fairly respectful. The food is fantastic and in my opinion, Zarautz is a better option than San Seb. I'd recommend learning a bit of Basque before you go - earns you brownie points with the locals!

.. - ..just don't fool around with the nice girls..cuz sumtimes they have a big fanatic basque brother..and he and his friends will hunt you down ..and if they catch you ..you know the rest.. so it's best to travel light when going out for a party.. and store a baseball bat in your tent.. cuz they can get rather protective of their women. true story.
