Places to stay in Sopelana
A few friends and I are travelling to Sopelana during the middle of July. I was wondering if anyone could give me some names of places to stay. I'm looking at the more budget end of the price range.
Thanks

Aupa. Viva el Pais Vasco!!!!
I'm surfing Sope and La Salvaje a few times every year.Nice area with really cool bars at the right side of the beach at Sopelana. You can stay a few days with a caravan at the parking and even put your tent on the grass next to you're car. The police won't say anything if you don't leave waste or destroy anything. Cool people but there are a few stupid locals. Once a local wanted to fight me and paddled behind me through the whole line up and he said I have to go out of the water. Keep cool and show respect, there are a lot of cool and friendly surfers. A few Locals just have big mouth but won't fight you. Have a lot of local friends there. They are real good and friendly people. There are a two surf schools at the beach. When it's on, there're good waves with nice tubes, but even crowded. Perfect Base to spent a few days. Lots of good surf spots around for Beginners and Pros->like Menakoz, La Salvaje and less than half an hour to Bakio and Mundaka. 15 Minutes to Bilbao, good Parties.
If Sope and La Salvaje is to big, go to Ereaga for smaller waves. Or go to Mundaka and Menakoz to ride a big, big wave. If there's a big swell, there are a lot of spots that normal do not work and you will find waves with only a few surfers in there. Just need big Cojones.
Enjoy it!!!!

We spent one week. Nice waves, beautiful girls all around without top. Bilbao is always nice to see.

Sopelana is a good spot , powerfull and with a nice view , BUT , locals are very stupid that give a bad image of a so beautiful country ... stop localism

very nice beach..a bit polluted due to the near port of bilbao. you can easily reach sopelana from bilbao catching the metro (30 mins bilbao center-sopelana). in the morning surfing, at night clubbing

Surf Sopelana
I am thinking where do I take those 10 days I have free from work to go and ride some waves. Somewhere it is frequent; good quality; good fun and without doubt a place that is a piece of pie to get to. Playa de Sopelana is the answer. From Bilbao 40 mins metro ride, 15 min walk to campsite (top quality site, mind the slop though) and general alround all you could wish for. Nice locals, a couple of good surf shops and one amazing little factory shop on the main road, cheap, nice for the price, quality. Meet surfers from all over the shop, get some nice er smoking material from local fella's. Last time I went there was even a mary jane shop on the main road... Go exploring to Meņakos, rocky little bay over the right hand cliff. Swell is obviously well known but never seen it, rare occurance outside fall and winter. Enjoy and remember don't drink and go for a stroll on the cliffs..

Sopelana
Yeep yeep yeep for sure. Sopelana was one of my first surf destination trips 20yrs ago or so. Lush place and as the man says. Prettiest girls you'll ever see. Sure beats Bridgend South Wales any how. Great surf beach with a big beach scene.

sopelana-GREAT
Stayed at Sopelana campsite, overlooking the break...good site, but a tad to expensive on the cost of a pitch. However, the surfing was Brill! surfed with Dolphins...now that was cool. Surf consistent while at end july start aug. Locals cool, keep your head you will get waves...don't cramp the locals or they might have you kicked out of the water.
