Mundaka is like a diamond... ...an as hard it gets to find a diamond in the sand it can get to find a wave in Mundaka! I've been there several times, and never saw more than wavepool size. You must either be a pro surfer with a jet to fly in then it gets on - or be a local.

WCT Who sold out and let contests in? I thought the Basques knew what's up. Get it together fools. Tell the pros to beat it.

conditions for mundaka does it only work with west and northwest swell or are these just ideal conditions. 1.Does mundaka work with other directions such as for example swell from north or northeast? 2.How big must the swell in these different directions be to produce a surfable wave?

Mundaka pulls thru` If the 2007-02-08 photo is from now, then Mundaka has 'risen from the dead' & again proves that this break is really the 'jewel in the crown' of Europe`s surfing venues(even though all that dredging shit at the rivermouth almost fucked-up 'Neptune`s' gift to us!)

Surf in January? I'm leaving a couple of days for France and am hoping to get to Bilbao this trip. Is there any surf around this region in January? If so does the water temperature prohibit my paddling out?

I need information Hi everyone!!I come from the south of Spain and I need to elaborate a thesis for my university.I though about Mundaka and if the climate change, increase sea levels, and warm temperatures are gonna make waves change and surf as well and how to promote in another way Mundaka to continue being attractive for everyone. If some of you can give me some info, contacts, notes, that could be great.I am now in Holland and after in Germany but probably I will have to go to Mundaka in the summer to work in my thesis.Thanx everybody

Woww!! Not much to say. The longest left in Europe. Attention. Up from the church it looks smaller than it is. Be prepared for hard paddeling, because the river has a heavy rip and will take you out to the ocean. When its On and there are big waves, it's dangerous because at low tide the sandbar is less than 4-5ft deep. A lot of pros injured themselves at the Billabong Pro Mundaka every year. There's a nice beach on the other side of the river. Playa Laida, which has several peaks and another beach at the other side of the mountain at the right side of Playa Laida which name is Laga. There's even an Island in front of Mundaka named Izaro, which has a big and dangerous reef. A few locals go there when there are huge waves. It does work at 12ft+. Access only by boat. They surf waves with 20ft + there. Hot action and only for Specialist.Nice Area, lot of nature and when there are no waves go to Bakio. Sometimes there's no wave in Mundaka and Bakio is spitting with 6-8ft right- and lefthanders. Respect the Locals and you will enjoy it. When you're friendly, talk to the locals and you would have immediatly a long conversation with them. Maybe you get drunken with them in a bar after surfing and maybe you will get some new friends. I have a lot of good friends in this area. I meet them during the surf sessions in the water and they are all good and friendly people if you show some respect. Otherwise they will eat you.Any questions??? Contact me
