Peniche in August - waves status? Hello, We are a group of intermidiate surfers with 1 year experience. is August a good time to catch waves in Peniche? we are not looking for the big 2 meters waves... Can someone share his experience? we would realy kick ourselves for making it all the way to Portugal only to meet a flat ocean. Thanks, Guy

you can rent a campervan there hi you can rent campervans from Siesta Campers in the Algarve, they rent retro vw campers and meet you at the airport, very stylish. our mates picked one up this summer and we plan on doing it this winter. Last time I was there we stayed In Peniche and it stank because of the fish packing factory. wouldn't stay there again.

October Aloha, I am looking to do a camper van trip between Lisbon and Porton in the fall. I will be with the missus who does not surf, so Im not rolling up with an insta crowd, and have done a good bit of travelling and know full well that respecting the locals and the aina goes a long way. Just trying to get a bit more info as far as getting away from the herd, seek and ye shall find of course, but is it a hassle finding good spots to post up at with the camper???? Lots of private property and having to stay at RV parks, hope not...Any information would be greatly appreciated, I have heard a lot of brilliant things about Portugal and Northern Spain, cant wait to see it for myself...

kickass surfcountry! If you are looking for medium to big powerfull waves in a sunny climate not that much different from California then don't miss Portugal. Whatever level you have, you're garanteed that by the end of your trip you have progressed and stepped up to a whole new level. Too bad the big comps are in the end of august when it's the smallest time of the year, so some people are led to believe that Portugese waves are small. How false an impression can be. One year in september (I think 2004) the waves didn't fall beneath headhigh the whole two weeks I was in Ericeira. Except summer, and even then, the problem with Portugal isn't about finding some beach that catches swell, but about finding a beach, reef or point that isn't to much for your abilities. This is definatly a must-visit country for every surfer around the globe. The icing on the rich European cake.

So tell me.. which country didn't suck at colonialism in the southern hemisphere..with the obvious exception of England's doing in Oz and NZ..?
