Back in96
Memories of sheer terror at Punto "not so" pequena. Solid 6-8 Hawaiian scale. Blue Black water, 20' barreling face. Sat on the shoulder after the near miss amping on fear. Paddled back in and hyperventilated. Shot video the rest of the trip. Saw a solid 20' swell unload at Jardim do Mar. So big that the concrete house where we were living was shaking at every set. I'd go there again for the beauty alone, but have much disdain for the government. Go to savethewaves.com and support their cause.

I also want my photo on wannasurf.com
We should all put our photos on this site, and mostly post photos here of all the spots on our island without asking anyone's permition, specially the locals... Just like João Matos(madeira's nº1 local)did.
Ride on...

Best time of year?
If the dates on the photos are legit, it appears swell can appear at any time of year. Anyone care to be more specific with general rules of thumb?

Point breaks are mellow, but.....
this one wil kill you if you don't know what you are doing. The rest of the waves on Madeira are similar-Powerful swells of great size near to the rocks. If you come to surf you need to be ready, or else don't waste your $$$$. It is hectic and tremendously powerful. Perfect, but crazy dangerous. I saw it and feared it.

jardim do mar muito obrigado
I visited this place in 1998 with a friend and surfed it during twelve consecutive days. The biggest day we were at the line up and a we got caught by a huge, lost, ghost set breaking far out, lots of white water for 6 waves... I found my friend lied in the stones half an hour later, still in trance..
the heaviest set I ever ate!

Westside SC!!!
Josh Loya from Santa Cruz ruled this spot back in 2000. It ain't Mavs but it's still a world class deep water wave. Maximum respect required. Unless you're from NorCal or Hawaii and have heavy water expereince, don't tempt fate.

Jardim do Mar's hotly-contested seawall is complete, but the verdict is still out on how badly the wave has been damaged. Locals, however, are saddened by the loss of their natural coastline, and feel that the government betrayed them.

there more waves who are also be threatened check this: http://www.savethewaves.org/
