No Kooks welcome !!!!!!!!!!!!! - If you don't live here don't surf here!!!!!!!! Locals only. Go to Ericeira that's where all the surf schools are and friendly locals, so bagger off !!!! Ask for Miguel Fortes, he will help you out...

... - i was on madeira in the first week of november. and i think madeira could be a good place for surfing. i was a bit irritated because i never saw a surfer on really good waves and at nice spots. but then i went to spot near sao vicente and there were so many locals who weren't as nice as their isle madeira. so keep cool guys, we are all surfers and not a kind of enemy or something like that... please become better!!!hangloose

disappointing - i just came back from a week in Madeira. I stayed with my relatives in Sao Goncalo. i travelled to Jardim do Mar and was really sad to see that the spot is ruined from the development of a promenade along the seashore. Madeira is really nice, especially the northern part; Funchal i found to be boring and the people not very open (if you're not able to speak Portuguese). Anyway, it is an ok place but not somewhere to go for a surftrip. If you want better conditions and more spots, travel to Ericeira near Lisbon. Save yourself the hassle and the extra plane fare.
