What are ye talkin 'bout Strandhill is one of da best places to surf in Ireland!!!!I should know i live ere. it can b kinda shite in winter(sometimes)bt in summer it's beautiful i hav to say it can b kinda small bt then again it can b massive to!!!!Lovely long days,beautiful sunsets,sick barrels and talkin to really friendly surfers outback....the best wave ever(and not just coz it's mi home break!!!)

whats with all these people turning up and getting in with crap surf conditions?...10/11 people last weekend in strandhill with surf that was at most 2/10.
Hit trawee earlier on much better..but still why so many people cloggin up the sea when the conditions are just not worth it ;< ...I think if people are seeing others in there getting in too..dont..make your own judgment calls and watch out getting in - in crap conditions is becomming contagious...

Not sure many people know about this but there is a 'surfcam' on Strandhill Beach that updates itself every 30mins and runs all day /evening too! The picture is pretty good, good enough to see lines of swell and good enough to see where the tide is at!

Iv been livin ere for life. the beach has savage banks all over the place. sick shoreys. bodyboarding waves mainly and wats this i here about blue rock bein shit. suit yerselfs but wen big swell hits that place is heaven. ez paddle and sik ez barrels. i man stay away from ere! its mine! all mine! go South! the south gets fuk all swell. north west has the best spots in europe if u look for them. id know. iv been living ere all my life.

We are have been there for 2 weeks at sept. 2002 for
windsurfing. The waves have been like on the shown pics.
For windsurfers it is a realy good place because it is
not crowded and you have the possibility to ride waves with the very friendly local surfers there. Also, it was one of the best places for me, because of the pub 'THE STRAND'with daily concerts in this time after the surfsessions.

Believe what you want
I'll back that person up who scored some tubes at Blue Rock. I stayed in the village for 5 months this year, and did get it epic.... twice.

And as for Ozzie Rippa, well when that west winds blowing - dont chug guinness in the pub. Get in your car, drive a couple of hours and you might just find a wave that looks like Mundaka going off... I did.

Thats the beauty of Ireland, everyone likes to bitch about the conditions, but those willing to put up with them are the ones who take home the best memories.

pictures say it all
I have been to Ireland three winters in a row to check the "legendary" surf, all I did was sit around in my car with the heat up full and the wipers on watching lumpy cold seas blown all to hell by a never ending west wind. That is not to say that I didn't get some waves, but for all the hassle of finding a spot, waiting for the wind to turn, and getting into a bloody 5-4 steamer, hood, gloves, and bloody boots, I would have been better off getting a flight to Hawaii. Strandhill sucks and the wave at the end of the beach works once in a blue moon, but there is a pub nearby with a warm fire and good guinness...
