The east coast slop surfers
It can get quite big here. However, the frequency of this happening is indeed similar to hen's teeth - rare. I have personally seen southerly ground swell wrapping its way up the east coast.That was during a phenomenal storm off the south west coast of Ireland. The waves were quite huge - 5ft plus and clean. The wind was offshore and mild. Moreover, the waves generally tend to be wind swell, east, n.east or south east and on shore of course . I've surfed in March 2006 to a sizeable N.east 'swell', that wrapped nicely around the head. If the waves are on your door step then it's a bonus but i wouldn't depend on it - Oahu or Pipelines it is not.

Neptune Outdoor
Just on the beech there is the East Coasts only surf school, Neptune Outdoor Centre operates there.
Surf aint great but the odd day it can be ok!
