The east coast slop surfers
It can get quite big here. However, the frequency of this happening is indeed similar to hen's teeth - rare. I have personally seen southerly ground swell wrapping its way up the east coast. That was during a phenomenal storm off the south west coast of Ireland. The waves were quite huge - 5ft plus and clean. The wind was offshore and mild. Moreover, the waves generally tend to be wind swell, east, n.east or south east and on shore of course . I've surfed in March 2006 to a sizeable N.east 'swell', that wrapped nicely around the head. If the waves are on your door step then it's a bonus but i wouldn't depend on it - Oahu or Pipelines it is not.
Kelly Slater....locals only ha ha.
