the locals are champs
This is an awesome little wave...its thousands of miles to the closet ocean with surf...And in the middle of munich...I was backpacking round europe for 7 weeks...and was stoked when i came across this wave...I live near the goldcoast in Australia and surf every week, this was the longest i havent surfed for...The day i went there it was a nice clean 2ft face but it was soo cold it snowed and was about 5degrees air temp the water was frigid....The guys surfing it were wearing 5mm sealed suits, with gloves booties and hoodies, on like 5'5" twinnies... One champ let me have a go on his board, i think he just wanted to see me get in... i went in wearing boardies but it was worth it... got a few little turns in, was so fun, they were busting out...

Schooled in Germany
When i was in Germany I had a chance to try and surf this place and its f'ing nuts. I ate it twice and ended up about 100yrds down the river and finally called it quits. I grew up surfing HB and Newport and surfed other well known spots around the world. These guys who surf this place have got a ton of STYLE and SOUL. I saw guys doing full cutbacks and ariels at this place. Instead of doggin these guys just be happy they like it and dont end up driving to your local spot and making you look stupid

Get real!
What can I say? I've read through all the messages and it's just laughable. All those peolpe talking about "real surf" and how crappy riversurfing is and all that kinda bullshit.
Seriously guys! I don't give a shit about what you aussies, english, australien or frenchies think about us and our wave.
It seemes to me that surfing lost a lot of its spirit thanks to arrogant and ignorant people like you. And all I can say is that riversurfing is just another way of surfing and having fun with your mates
I agree, some of the locals are just a bunch of dickheads but the new generation rules. I really appreciate the fact that I have a wave (if it's not a wave, then what the hack is it???) in front of my house and that I can improve my skills and style 365 days a year.
So respect each other and don't take the ocean and its waves for granted!!!

Peace!

still fun...
I "surf" this "wave" since 1994 on a regular basis at any time of the year. After all these years it's still loads of fun. Don't be mislead by the small size of the wave, it offers way more powerfull surfing than a wave of that size in the ocean could ever do. Sure I'd prefer to drop into a real wave at any time, but as long as I live landlocked in Munich, that's the thing I'd be surfing regularly, so I try to enjoy it as much as possible. Crowds can be ridiculous, especially during the summer, even at night. Localism, however, is not a problem: VISITING SURFERS ARE WELCOME!!! Over the years, at the Eisbach I met surfers from almost every continent. Whoever tried it (including Gerry Lopez, Conan Hayes, Marting Potter, Rob Paige, etc.) said it was great fun, and that's what it is. Don't get too serious about it though, Munich's got other things to offer: worldclass beer, the mountains close by, etc. Just got back from a month in Portugal and still can't wait to blast out some sprays at my local spot... cheers

wave? surfing?
just read all the messages posted here.... I live in munich an I "surfed" this "wave" long time ago when I was a kid. We build our own "boards" with material from a do-it-yourself store. At this time, for me and my buddies it was some kind of "fun on the water" but we never called this surfing. I am a surfer for more than 20 years and Iīve been surfing in France, Portugal, Spain, The Canaries and North America. For me, it sounds very funny when some people call this a "wave" and say that this is "surfing". It may be fun to put your board into the river an stand on it - but this is not surfing! And a few words to the guys who are so proud about "their" Eisbach. Do you really think that it is o.k. when you write "Keep out from here, learn first on the other spot, cause it sucks when you fall after a few seconds"...."keep away - its dangerous" and on and on.... Localism sucks everywhere, but I never heard such dumb comments some of you guys wrote here. If locals on REAL surfspots would be like you, travelling wouldnīt be much fun. So I want to thank all the locals who shared their waves with me for not being so ignorant as some of the guys from my hometown!
