train or car hitchike or you can take a train direct to Bayaonne - then a short bus ride gets you out to the jetty or even anglet itself.

Biarritz- Cotes de Basque Early August, a good solid 4-8 ft. day, NW swell , fair plus shape at the Cotes de Basque.Very crowded, much like San Onofre in California, but a mellow crew.Extreme tide swings can change everything and the swell was followed by hard onshores and stormy conditions, the same day.Follow the lifeguard instructions/flag system or you could be beached!

! French roads changing numbers ! Dear all, Since 1st January 2006, 18.000 kilometers of French "National roads" are being re-numbered. The end date of this move is not known yet (Aug. 2008). Until now, a "National road" had a number beginning by N and some numbers to identify it on a map. The change of numbers will leave no track of the initial reference, so don't even try a guess-work, you could loose yourself ! As a matter of fact, ALL FRENCH MAPS are now OUTDATED until the change is officially ended. Check this link (in french) : http://www.equipement.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/press_rn_frnace_a_cle2136a5.pdf ...and stay tuned regarding the official closure of this dumb, silly, chaotic project.

If you are a shortboarder go to ''la Grande Plage'', this is Biarritz main beach facing the casino. If you like mellow waves and cool longboarders go to ''la plage de la côte des Basques'', this beach only works low tide though, there's no sand at high tide. You can also take the bus and go to Anglet (15 min bus), you have the best spots over there (les cavaliers, etc) and in june beaches are not too crowded. Have fun there.
