Côte sauvage - Phare de la Coubre (lighthouse) Access
From Bordeaux Airport, take the A10 Highway till a town called "Pons". Leave the highway and first, go in the direction of Royan (several surf shops here) then go to "la palmyre", cross the town and roll to the north. At 10 Km is the lighthouse "phare de La Coubre". It's the first of the 2 spots. The second is 2-3 km north (by car)

Additional Surfing Infos
At "phare de La Coubre", the beach is under control but often crowded. A good solution is to roll 2 or 3 km north. You can find here a little parking (sand), just behind the beach. You might often be alone but DON'T SURF THERE ALONE? it might be dangerous sometimes.
  Overview
Atmosphere There's often a west wind which is not making good conditions, but when the wind is east, and the wave at 1.5 meter, then it becomes a very cool site where you can make good surf.

very dangerous
This area can be very dangerous. I myself have been rescued by jet ski as I was caught in a massive rip tide. When it is misty it is hard to see out very far and this can be another hazzard if you get into trouble. Surf near the swimming area for better safety as the lifegaurds are obviously very busy in this dangerous stretch. Hence why it is called the cote savage.

Bignoux
Just come back from "Le phare" this day :1.5 meters and a very good sandbar : no depth, right and left, and some smiles when you are inside !!We were about thirty for three peaks...I am used to surf here, so don't look at the description :It is at high tide (2 hours before) and you have to search the 3-4 sandbars wich give some powerfull waves.Tips: they are closed to each other and very easy to find because there are only 4 easy access on this part of coast. If you want to see more about this spot, let's take a look to bodyboardpro website (in french) and look at the news of mid october : you will see a video of a bodyboard contest at this spot.
