Vendee Rules! - I lived in the Vendee for 8 months, and can recommend it to anyone. As Pete rightly said, it's a beautiful place, the beaches are huge and pretty much deserted out of the high season, the locals are all cool, there's some of the finest mussels you'll ever eat, and there's more breaks than you can shake a dirty big stick at. I reckon no-one bothers to visit it is cos everyone who goes to France automatically goes to the inflated prices and crowded lineups of L'Aquitaine of Biarritz cos of their reputation. More fool them! Can't wait to get back there.

No crowds here - I went to the Vendeed region for a holiday in June 2002. Beautiful coastline, loads of potential for uncrowded waves, easy fun beach breaks and some interesting point and reef set ups. At first I got the impression that people just dont surf here, there were so few surfers and only one surf shop that was in St Gilles, such a great alternative from surfing in England. We caught the fast cat ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg just under 3hrours for the crossing then its an easy drive 3-4 hours to central vendee. Why more people dont surf here I dont know. Another plus go to the beach in the morning the French dont get there to after mid day. The locals I did meet were very pleasant and quite happy to share there waves, make friendly chat in the line up and everything is cool. Maybe I got lucky. Cant wait to go back.

The Vendee - Great place, good waves, nice people. Bugger going in August when its packed, go in September / October and you'll score empty offshore waves. the foods good to. I spent most of my time in between Longeville and la Tranche sur Mer. Nice woods to go walking in when the surf sucks, plus La rochelle isnt too far awy. Definately wil be going back.

vendee in summer - Bring your longboard.spent 3 weeks in la trance in august and managed to surf about 10 days in total.mostly 2ft with a couple of days at around 3-4ft but very mushy and very busy.seafood in local area excellent as is the camping.hoping the summer swell in europe is better next year so i can see some quality french beachies that we all love.all in all a good place to visit.
