I went to Biscarosse for my Holidays. I didn't expected much surf as the weather forecast seemed bad. But it has been pretty good except 3 days. I get some excellent sessions on excellent sandbanks.

Hey I'm a french dude, and I got to tell you that you are perfectly right. I surfed Scotland in summer and caught some of the best waves ever! Landes were disappointing in comparison. I would totally go back to North Scotland anytime! Surfers were freackin cool as hell, tubed almost every day, no crowd, just a little chili from time to time. But what the hell? Who see a perfect 6" s[raying wave that breaks on a shallow reef with max 5 surfers around in summer? Anyway, the swell that hits France comes from the Briottish Island, which anytime we got waves it was at least twice as small in FRance where all the posers were showing off in crappy waves. We even got a 12 to 14" swell one day that was just so fast and full offshore...Now if you want warm water and good swell in France come in sept/oct.

Best Beachbreaks
Landes is up there having some of the best beach breaks in the world, pick a main spot and walk 10 mins north/south of that spot and prepare to get some of the funnest waves to yourself...Locals surf the main spots and sometimes get aggro if you surf better than them, so just walk a bit and get waves to yourself! I have been there every year for about 8 years and the place always delivers the waves, note: get up at 7am to surf main spots by yourself, the french dont get up very early
