illbiaritz
did this one late aug 06, good size, smaller as tide drops, watch out for boilers at lower tide, rips manageable, lifeguard pain in the .., locals cool, good for wife and kids too-good facilities, gentler shorebreak, fun fun fun, and great if youre too lazy to walk very far

News from Ilbarritz
Recently (spring 2006), rocks have been removed from the ground of the beach, and sand added to satisfy tourists. It may change a little the configuration of waves, particularly the shore break that was quite violent before, and more smooth now because of the flattening of the beach.

recent visit
this beach is good at low tide but a shore break at high, still when it was low the surf was pumping and nearly empty, you can park right next to it but watch for rips...
enjoy. PS i went last weak and would never even consider calling this wave sloppy??? beats everywhere i've seen in the UK for power and hollowness of wave

I forgot about taking boards
The flights thet we get from Stanstead carry our boards as part of our baggage allowance. So theres none of the £30.00 extra for carrying surfboards.

Barritz in general
Barritz is a really great place. Ive been there several times now and have always found a wave. We normaly camp at Barritz camping. Its about 500m from the beach. There is a shop on site which does usuall camping stuf. Thoug it does not do camping gaz gas. Luckilly i had a liquid burning stove so that was fine. They also cook on site in a small cafe. Jess and I had a lovelly meal of freshly cooked Fish all served up in an open sided resturant on the beach. It was rather nice.

Any way if your in the UK and its not far to Stanstead airport. We are 30 miles away and know we are lucky. We now go to Spain, Portugal and France surfing as it works out cheaper and quicker to fly abroad than it is to drive to Cornwall and risk being run down by 30 ppl on a wave.

Try it you'll love it
