very true, populo is good almost all winter long, low or high tide as long and the wind's not from the east or strong south wind. In the summer I only got good waves on low tide on a windy day a few hours after it spined from south to north, +_+

the summer is on the north shore. in the winter (as it was with the gordon hurricane) because of the storms, populo is a vey good beach break

Surfing in July (4-11.7.)
There wasn't any waves, and the few that I saw broke too close to the beach. Locals said, that the North Shore of Sao Miguel is better this time of year, and it really was!
