distance from la pared
About 2.5 miles, but it feels like 5 miles cause the sand along the beach from la pared to la selva is soft and deep and very tiring to walk long distance.

La Selva - A hidden treasure!
Part of the exicetment is parking your car and jumping fence. The bulls will keep you on your toes, without a doubt. The anticipation of reaching the coast line with miles and miles of palm trees is like no other. On a big day as you aproach this paradise, all of the trees will block the entire view of the ocean. As you walk closer and closer your heart starts pumping as you hear the roar of the ocean howling for you to dare ride her. At this point all you want to do is run - another second longer is a lost chance of riding this perfect spot. An then - you finally reach the beautiful ocean and it takes your breath away man! I would suggest a group of 3 or more - you will need a few witness to these incredible waves (you are kinda safer too!) If you are in the Luquillo area - La Selva is a must! I hope you can experience the full Selva effect and not just walk the beach (leave that for the turist). p.s. Cow turds in this area harvest some of the best mushrooms for our ritual drink "te de campana". Happy surfing amigos!

La Pared walk
It is much farther to walk from La Pared than to walk down the cow path. I would say at least twice as long. If you have a dog that is good off the leash it is the secret weapon for getting down the path. Plus you can chain it up where you leave your stuff and it won't get ganked.

EASY WALK
The description about walking through fields of bull is right, but you could easily park your car by the Plaza of La Pared and it is a short walk around the beach to the right. You can see La selva's break when standing at La pared, and its usually a little bigger and stronger than la pared.

you might want to know
I found a great way to get to this spot if you have 4 wheel drive. When heading NW on the 3 you come to an intersection in Fajardo, about 8 mile before Luquillo. At this intersection is a Hollywood video or something but Im not sure of the name of the road. Take a right and go up the hill, then go behind the store on top of the hill on the left and there is a dirt road. there is a no tresspassing sign but nobody is ever around. Take this road all the way to the beach and drive down to la selva. Wacth out for locals we had a guy drive his jeep down and had every tire slashed, theres no driving back when this happens.

I lived at the Naval base 20 minutes away from this spot. I didn't realize it at the time, but it was pure heaven. Now, 20 years later I'm pleased to hear people are still running from the bulls. What a perfect, uncrowded, and fun wave! I sure do miss it. We had a group of seven or eight gringos(Navy brats) who would go down there all the time. What a life! Unfortunately for me, 10 years ago I broke my neck surfing in Ocean Beach California. No worries though, life is still good and I got to surf for 2 1/2 years in Puerto Rico. That was heaven for me. After reading some of these comments I had to contribute. Great place!

I found the web stie for the surfrider page
The website is http://www.surfrider.org/nec/index.asp. This really shows how beautiful this spot is, you HAVE to check out the 360 view, it's pretty cool.

La Selva!!!!
The exit to get to La Selva is the "Pitahaya" one on the main road on your way from San Juan. I have surfed this place with a handful of friends on a weekday and the waves were 10 to 12 on the shore break. Need to be very careful of were you place your gear, the problem is that some non-surfer locals hide and watch you and after you go in the water they come and take your stuff. Better to leave your stuff close to the edge of the water in the open,YES in the sun.
