I'm Puerto Rican and La Perla along with Barrio Obrero(That's where I'm from, but not anymore) are synonymous with entering and not coming out alive. It's legendary. Anybody raised Puerto Rican with Puerto Rican culture has heard a million times about la Perla. It has only one entrance/Exit. They call it La Boca del Lobo, "The wolve's mouth" . And the guy talking about ganja and cocaine. That aint the drug of choice there, its smack/ herione. They will steal from anybody for a fix. You have to know the people there. Are you kidding me, the people that say its okay are either really lucky, (like a miracle happened to them), know the locals(and i dont mean surfers, I mean people that live there), or want you to be harmed. Plus the place is dangerous to surf.

...
Go in the winter, December or January time frame. Don't worry about the locals, just keep your mouth shut. I'm from PR, surfed La Perla numerous times and its pretty good. Don't bring shit, just your board.
