Lives will never be the same
Well our lives will never be the same after spending a week at Morro Negrito. It was an appropriate place to spend Thanksgiving. Everything was
fantastic - really. I can barely stand the thought of a 4/3 wet suit now. Staying up past 8pm is a chore and I keep dreaming about all the magic.
For the critics who went before us my thought is this - if they took issue with the fresh cuisine then they clearly were not laughing enough, surfing
enough and chilling enough. Hats off to Jeff, Dan and Clayton who made the trip awesome and to Ruffy, the best dog EVER!

Me and a bunch of my Hawaiian friends went back in 2000 and the campand waves sucked big time. The boat drivers were so hung over they would not wake up to take us out. We had to rally them ourselves. The cooks did not understand how to cook freshly caught fish and over cooked it. Nestles is truly a drop to a mush out. P land has too many rocks. Camp was dirty and lame. I do not know how it is now, but its a mission to get there. Way better spots in other parts of Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. It seems that beginning surfers and longboarders enjoy the camp. You might score a few waves, but certainaly not world class..not even close. Everyone on Kauai knows not to go here if your searching for a good camp experience!!

Don't believe the Morro Negrito Hype
I've been to many surf camps and this one ranks as the very worst. Avoid at all costs. The food is disgusting and sparse. The reason they suggest bringing protein bars is to save them money. The living quarters were dirty and filled with bugs. And while the surf can be good (based on photos) it was flat when we were there and the owner told us it was going off the day before. NOT TRUE! We left nad went to Bocas Del Toro which is great. There are great surf camps in Nicaragua and Costa RIca and probably in Panama. THis isn't one of them!!

Isn't it weird how every post that is not positive about the wave is followed up with a really positive post about Morro Negrito Surf Camp?
Hmmmm... could it be Steve the owner of the camp out flaming the boards to support his financial gain???
The wave is weak, don't go- that is real feedback, not MN propaganda.
By the way how many surf camps have so many people taking the time to warn you off?

Latest Morro Negrito commentary
There are about 500 surfers per year that come to Morro Negrito Surf Camp. 95% of them have a great time and 5% of them don't. These same 5% go to wannasurf.com and complain about it. Some of the happy ones write me emails to me thanking me for such a great experience. Here is an email I received today:
Steve- I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know what a great time I had at Morro Negrito (I know Lara did as well). You have an amazing staff on that Island and I'd be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to let you know just how great they ALL are. I have never surfed before and had two surf lessons- one with Karinn and one with Tyler. I have to tell you, both are amazing surf guides and went out of their way to really make sure I was comfortable and it all made sense to me. Tyler was constantly checking in with me to make sure I was catching waves....and the entire staff was always looking out for us. It was great and felt so good to be there--like family.

I had a great couple days at snickers and even tried my hand at some bigger waves at leftovers and mojo. Plus, the port and chapel were kicking. Overall, it was such a special experience. Of course, the surf was the main reason and the beautiful setting was another, but it would not have been the same without the people. While I spent most of my time on the water with Karinn, Tyler and Bob (and can go on and on how truly special they all are invidually), Andy's personality and Jeff's sense of humor made a great vacation so much more memorable. And of course, Chela (i am probably spelling that wrong) and Anna were very amenable with my food issues as well.

Again, great time, super professional, personable and enjoyable staff, and amazing location.

Thanks for the experience!! It is cold and windy in NYC right now and I am sitting in a cubicle...all I can think about is catching a wave...

Oh another case of Steve the owner of MN flaming these boards. Absolute crap, don't go to Morro Negrito, the reality is it is a bust. For the money spent you are better off on your own with a car and map in Panama.
Ask yourself how many over surf camps get bad reviews like this????

The trip was great! We had good to excellent waves at Sand Bar the first
three days, tapering off to poor-but-still-fun the last two days. Silva
breaks were sketchy,being overhead at the beginning but, from all accounts,
not ideal due to wind and swell direction.
The camp is terrific! Quiet, comfortable. Landscaping really nice. Food was
excellent: Chela is magic and kept us full and happy. Ben did the guide job
competantly and was delightful besides. John (interesting, engaging
character to be sure), was extremely helpful at all times. He repaired a
couple boards too.
Boatmen Aris and Johanes were excellent, no problems there.
Finally, I was impressed with the Panama City arrangements; pickups were
trouble-free, transport comfortable, Hotel Marparaiso just fine. We did get
to the landing a bit late for the tide due to a small delay in departing
Panama City. I would recommend erring on the conservative side to ensure
arrival while tide is good and high! Lugging the boards through the mud was
dicey.

I'll be writing a little story for my surf club newsletter in which I will
definitely recommend Morro Negrito.
