bum trip chris
wow, sad to hear that st martin wasnt happening for you.
please people do not confuse st martin with curacao. i never lived in sxm, so i cant talk for them. here on curacao it is not that likely that you will get into any trouble, unless you have an attitude or if you are a jerk by dropping in on the locals. i'm sure that then you would get to do with some of us down here.

i do suspect that sxm has better / more frequency in good size surf the curacao..... so 2 years without decent waves is a little hard for me to believe chris.... i know people there that tell me otherwise

bum trip
The island is blocked by the virgin islands to the west Anguilla blocks north swells. St barths blocks south east swells. Stayed for two years and waited on waves I would have scored in a two weeks vacation to rincon or barbados.
Lot,s of traffic, crime and most of all sloppy tradewind swell. The surfshop crew was a joke. Forget St maarten. save your money and go elsewhere.

Beware of the locals
Got beat up and my tires slashed by some locals after accidentally dropping in on on of them. The waves can sometimes be okay but usually sucks and is onshore. Some locals on the dutch side will plain out f@ck you up if they don,t like you. Lots of crime. Go to the Tortola, Barbados or better Puerto rico.

CURACAO Surf
Curacao is mainly about fun surf! It can get good and even Epic if you know when and were to look. TIMING is therefore everything!
When = Mainly in the Hurricane, and Northern Hemi winter season.
Hurricane season,.... when the hurricanes or even tropical storms, move through the caribbean sea. (Not outside of it) Or when the Cold fronts comming off the US Eastern coast, send swell that penetrates the the upper Carib island chain.

Locals are generally friendly & easy to talk to. They might however not tell you immediately when and where to be for the best the island has to offer. Not to worry,... Canoa can still offer fairly decent action on bigger days. On larger swell days Canoa tends to close out. Then you better be on good terms with the locals so that they can assist you to find the glory! LOL
