Burros is actually a reef break, it breaks right in front of Palladium south of punta mita

Burros Fun wave, nice shoulder to it. Needs a little bigger swell to have some speed. Keep an eye on belongings on the beach, Feb. 06 .. got food poisoning while camping there, while I lay in the jungle puking just behind camp some one went through our stuff and walked off with 3000 dollars worth of Nikon photo gear. Not sure if it was someone from that damn resort or a local. I would hope it was a fat sunburned american though. Watch for the Chupacabra!!

bad news i am an old gringo and i have been surfing the punt mita area for over 10 years (longer than most of the local mexicans). the locals have become a bunch of wave pigs. they will hose you every time or charge you $20 to take you somewhere else and screw you there too. stay away. spend your money elsewhere.

You guys went at the wrong time This is a winter spot, only breaks good with a larger NW swell. My buddy had brought back video of this spot going off. Indo style, thin lipped barrels with playful shoulders that breaks over reef, the same way everytime. Its very hard to get to unless you stay at the resort or take one of those guided boat trips (how lame). As for a wetsuit? hahahhaahha. The NWers might bring in some colder water with the upwelling. I havent surfed it, as I usually go farther south. But I definately triped out when I saw the video, and my buddy said it broke like that for 5 days strait, head high to 2 feet overhead. If this wave isnt on there are a few others you can surf up the beach.

Weak short wave Don't waste your time or money. The hotel in front of the break is expensive all-inclusive dump and the food was horrible. The waves were weak and rarely had any pitch. Even worse the rights weren't very long, less then 100 feet and the left usually closes out. Being inside the bay, a lot of south swells are blocked. Go further south then puerto vallarta if you're going to spend the money.

Just got back 4-10-06 Stayed at the palladium for a week and surfed Burro's multiple time every day. 2 days were head high and the rest were waist to chest. On the good days there were 15-25 people in the water from sun up to dark. The wave breaks just like lower trestles ( a longer right with a shorter, steeper left) I actually liked the left, as I had it to myself and I'm goofy footed. The wave was fun, but I would go someplace else if you are lookin for a hard core surf trip.. But if you are with your girl, than staying at the Palladium Vallarta couldnt make it any easier.

yeah... so I may be going here I scored a free vacation to the viva resort and wouldn't mind scoring some waves while I'm there. Is it good in the summer? What is the best time to go? I live in Hawaii so I'm sure it'll be weak compared to here but it's cool to surf some place different. BTW do you need a wetsuit? Any info is appreciated. Aloha

Not that great Punta Burros is a very weak mushy wave. The lineup is littered with beginners and Canadian kooks, plus local kids that will burn you every time. It's really more suited to longboarding. That's my impression of it, but I've only been there once and it was no bigger than head high in my opinion, even though some of the longboarders were calling one day "big". Don't be fooled by people trying to say this is a hollow wave or world class wave, though. It' not, it's a nice, safe, fun, mellow wave.
