Mini Rats
Just got back from Abre, good surf, and it was a lot of fun,, except for the mini rats. They are really small rats (Yes, Mini Rats not mice) and they come out of the dump in the evening and get into everything. You have to keep your tent zipped at all times or they get in and try to nest in your sleeping bag. We start hanging our food from our shade to keep them from eating it. We watched a swarm of about 30 that tore through a bag of tortilla chips in about 5 mins. We talked to the locals and they said there was an outbreak in the last few months. The good thing is that they only come out in the evening and disappear after an hour or two. But that hour or two is a total bummer. The locals now all have cats around there house to keep them away but the point is still wide open.

i wanted to comment here again about this place, there are tons of waves all over this area, razors was breaking when we were there, about head high and really hollow, the main point was twice the size but kind of more user friendly and easier to just cruise on. 3 poles as breaking and some pro dudes were videoing there all day one day and making the wave look really easy to surf. The swell got really big a couple days and there were some mysto reefs up north of the main point that looked surfable but heavy, the break in town was breaking but didnt really look that good. All in all we had a great time, this was howoever 12 months ago and I have heard that the town has changed quit a bit over the last year, we did get a board ripped off out of the back of our truck the first night we pulled into town, the thing just vanished, brand new merrick, hadnt been waxed yet, it was buried under 5 other boards so it was weird how it just vanished - the locals were all cool though to tolarate 4 drunken white boys for 7 days, all we did was surf and drink beer and get jacked up by flys, if you are bored drive up to the old slaughter house on the mountains behind the camping area, spooky.

abreojos
Abreojos is one of the safer towns in all of baja. these people are lame. I don't believe there is a public phone, but cell phones work if you have to make a call.

Safety in Abreojos
Now I am worried. My daughter is there camping this week and I have not heard from her and hear about thieves and Meth Heads. How safe is it there? Also, anyone know if there are pay phones she can drive to in order to call me?

These posts are so lame. People writing about Meth-heads and robberies are just trying to scare away the crowds. The place is safe as anywhere. I scored in July and had a session at Razors -- an amazing wave! The point is lame and mushy, but if you ride a longboard could be fun. Surfed a couple times at a right in town, but I'll keep that story to myself. Who goes here for the beachbreak in town!? Solid south swell and you can expect some waves. Good luck!

This spot has really really nasty water and only breaks good on very particular south swells so dont go here expecting consistant waves....locals are really shady too...surfed this spot at its potential once this Summer 07', very narly wave when breaking, i would recommend being really experienced if you plan to paddle out.

this is one of the few places Ive been in Baja where I have been fearful for myself and my belongings. I never felt safe leaving stuff in my car or at the campsite while in the water. There are some serious meth heads around, watch out. My trip was ruined because I had to constantly be watching my shit, go farther south and get better surf and better people.

Meth Heads
I am pretty sure I saw some meth heads when I was in Abrejos this past summer. A few dudes in a motorhome, they were kind of crazy. Sorry about your stuff getting stolen.

What are the water temps like around Abreojos?
I'm trying to get far enough south to ditch the wetsuit, but don't want to be bothered with crapo wapo.

Man that sucks! Sorry to hear a couple junkies jacked your gear. Were they local guys or gringos? 12 hours into Mex is the last place you want to get jacked.

BTW was the point breaking or only beach? I always wanted to make a winter trip down there, but thought it only picked up south swell.
