los patos and los patos
los patos de NIZAO, lefts, point break, super long. located just outside of BANI (to the east)don't go without a 4x4 if it has rained.
los patos de BARAHONA, river mouth beach break, short, super thick, located just outside of PARAISO (to the west) thats where you can buy food and drinks right at the beach. if your surfing los patos de barahona you screwed up and drove right by the killer break in BAHURUCO ( just watch out for the two "coral heads" that are right in the middle of the wave if you go left about a foot under the water)and the park in PARAISO a.k.a. cornflakes(my local break)

Los Patos is a gift from God.
I think the South has been blessed with a beautiful place called Los Pato, San Rafael and Bahia de las Aguilas.
Los Patos is the perfect place for stop if you driving further down. Feel like cooling off? Jump in the cold waters of the river. Want to catch a tan? Lay on the quiet stretch of sand of the beach. It's quite relaxing fun place to be. The locals are great. You will never be at loss for company. Dominicans are very friendly people and always welcome anyone who visits their country. Feeling hungry and thirsty? Don't worry, just order food and drinks from the ladies that serve food on the river edge if not walk up the road to the nice little restaurants that serve great fish and other delicacies.
If you looking to be in touch with yourself and mother nature, visit Los Patos. It's a great place.

Hasta luego,

two ducks
Could it be there are 2 surf spots with similiar names? Isn't Los Patos located in the Barahona area and Pato beach, the loooong left point, located 1.5 hours west of Santo Domingo? By the way, the south shore of DR is always offshore in the morning.

los patos.....close to santo domingo???
It's at least a 3-4 hour drive from the capital. It's outside of Barahona, I wouldn't consider it "close" to santo domingo.

great spot!
Close to Santo Domingo. U R right about the sand getting hot, the current is strong also, after a long ride its hard to decide wether to walk back to the peak or paddle.

Can get crowded on the weekends but plenty of peaks up and down the beach, even though most idiots stay in the same place.

Do not forget to bring water and snaks (noting around), clothes for the local kids.

They dont bite!!
The sharks are quite big here, but you get used to them. I've only seen them attack a couple of times and the victims werent badly killed. Dont worry too much and enjoy the waves and mother nature.

Sharks!
Long left with at least 3 indentions....1 indention ride can be over 200 yards....dirty water in the summer... 50% of my sessions I've seen HUGE sharks....bring baseball equipment for the locals.
