february - i went to dominical in february of 2004 and scored head high with offshore/no wind everyday. however i got really lucky. i was talking with one of the locals who said for the 2 weeks in february before i had gotten there that not even longboarders were out. if you can id recomend going to where you can catch a nw swell up in guanacaste because all the storms are coming from northern hemi right now.

Skimboard - Anyone know if you can buy a skimboard in Costa Rica? In San Jose, or do you need to go to Jaco?

Drake's Bay - Anybody got any info on this place???I was told theres no surfing there, AFTER i booked my rooms. Now I'm totally worried, especially cause this is my first major surf trip besides mex. I don't wanna be skunked. So somebody please, give me the low down on this place.
Tent or not to tent... - Hola,I will be coming to Costa Rica late January early February from the cool winter in Canada. I'm planning on backpacking with my board. I had planned on hostelling most of the trip but does anyone figure I should probably bring a tent, mini-stove etc...I would like to hit Roca Bruja and I think it may be handy. Thoughts? I would rather not take the extra weight but just wanted some input.Cheers and PURA VIDA!
just a tip - If you know a spot that's not posted yet, don't post it. If you think you're cool cause you're a real surf adventurer or whatever and you know something that others don't, it's not worth it. Be cool and be quiet
once and only once - So i just returned from a 3 mo. trip in CR. Anyhow the lowdown for me- I surfed Salsa Brava (yes it can be surfed without monster tubes) probably was the best shaped wave I hit. Yes when it does tube it is a serious wave- you better have experience (more than just your avg. head high tube in Cali.). Surfed Cocles by the island- 2 mile walk down the beach from Salsa- much softer and less crowded. Surfed Heromosa- kind of mushy and fickle with the tide but it can hit good- the town (if any) blows. Santa Thersesa was probably the most consistent- better than Mal Pais, also. Dominical was great but closed out 3 out of 4 weeks there- the random good days were epic!!!! and the town is cool.If your into culture don't go to CR. It's full o' gringos- each with there whiny problems and everyone out to make a dollar. 99% of the gringo conversation is about what business to start or what property to buy. Might as well talk to Bush about taking over the country- it's that bad. This attitude also adds to the ticos looking at us and seeing nothing but dollar signs- personally i like to travel and find locals interested in Americans but you won't find that here- maybe 20 yrs. ago.Oh well- all in all it was good but i'll never go back- i prefer to travel to countries where the towns are run by locals and not foreigners. Other countries in CenAmer have surf and could use the tourist $ more than CR. God bless the cocaine- it keeps the line-up empty in the mornings no matter how good the surf!!!!!
