Surboard Prices - A brand new 100% Authentic Al Merrick at Chuck´s Chozita del Surf is worth $685.00 cash; a brand new Rusty is worth around $550.00. The cheapest way to get a surfboard in Costa Rica is to get it shaped by Banzaii, a local shaper, for $250.00-$400.00 depending on your specifications and finish. Hope this helps!

- 1st time to CR- What's a cabina? Is it the kind of place like in BAJA where you rent an elevated deck of wood and throw down a tent? Palapa?

Got floor space? - I'm an 18 year old student studying in Chile starting next September but I'm gonna be surfing in Costa Rica from August 31 until Sept. 8th and I would be stoked if anyone who lived near good surf, maybe north near tamarindo (just because Ive spent a lot of time there), wouldn't mind letting me crash at their place. I'm super honest, mellow, easygoing, good at doing dishes, cooking and I'm all about paying for some floor space, I just can't afford hotel costs. I also work at a surf shop so if you got any orders I can bring down some discount supplies for you. Send me an e-mail if you can help out a kid. Thanks...

Clothing - Clothes and boards are more expensive in CR. We have to pay import taxes...it's obvious stuff, c'mon!

Central america Drive - A trip is in plan to drive from Cali with the last stop in panama. This will be that of a 4-5-6 month trip stopping in different spots along the way. Has anyone done something like this? I would appreciate you sharing your experiences. Thanks in advance.

RE: Rainman´s message - I live in Playa Grande but I was in Mal Pais during that week you were there. There was a heavy swell but the onshore wind was making it impossible to surf. Paddling into the peak was exhausting and dreadful. One day I surfed for 3 hours and got only 8 waves!!! Usually Mal Pais has heavy surf and longboarders have a tough time here. If you want waves for longboarding head to Playa Negra, Avellanas, Langosta, Tamarindo, Grande, Witch´s or Ollie´s here in Guanacaste. About the break ins, sorry about your mishap...I have lived here 25 years and have been broken into my car once, so for others visiting here...relax, it´s not as bad as some may think. Take the necessary precautions. Would you leave your car unlocked in Brooklyn? Better luck next time Rainman, see you here in Grande! (Great surf yesterday!)
